I shook my head, pushed those troubling thoughts aside, and went up to the sofa.
‘Eimile.’
When she looked up at me, her eyes were red-rimmed and puffy.
‘Conor’s waiting for you in the car,’ I said. ‘It’s getting late. You should get some rest.’
She held Sarah’s hand, reluctant to leave.
Kieran put in, ‘Sarah will be staying here for a while. You’ll have plenty of time to talk to her. But she’s had a long day, and needs time to process what you’ve told her.’
‘All right.’ Eimile blew out a long breath, slowly rose from the sofa.
She leaned into Sarah. ‘I’ll come by tomorrow.’
‘That’ll be nice.’ Sarah returned the hug, then used her fingers to wipe away the tears on Eimile’s face. ‘Sorry, my memory’s still a blank. But what you’ve told me helped, a lot.’
‘Really?’ Eimile’s eyes lit up.
‘Really.’ Sarah patted Eimile’s back. ‘Now go home and get some rest.’
Eimile finally left after a prolonged goodbye.
It was just the four of us left in the living room.
