Teresa hadn't spoken to Cameron out of impulsive anger—she had planned to tell him those words long ago.
Cameron's gaze was fixed on her, his brow furrowed, his expression dark.
Rosalie lifted her head from his shoulder at Teresa's words. Perhaps she feared her parents would fight, or that Teresa truly meant to stop caring for her. Tentatively, she whispered, "Mommy."
Teresa's heart twisted painfully. Yet, remembering Melinda's words, she stepped forward.
Cameron kept Rosalie tucked firmly in his arms, but he refused to even glance in Teresa's direction.
Teresa reached out, gently cupping Rosalie's tear-streaked face. "Remember what I told you, Rosie? No bullying, no looking down on others, and no criticizing them. If you make a mistake, you must correct it. Do you understand?"
With her eyes rimmed red and tears still carving paths down her cheeks, Rosalie nodded fervently. "I understand, Mommy," she choked out.
