At the critical moment, Gresham suddenly lunged forward, wrapping his arms tightly around Nancy. A deafening crash was heard, even from miles away. Screams erupted from the onlooking crowd. Nancy's eyes snapped open, and she saw blood running down Gresham's head. Her pupils constricted as panic surged through her. She immediately dialed for an ambulance. Gresham had passed out by now. Nancy gently laid him against the chair, then got out of the car, only to realize that there was another vehicle wedged between theirs and the truck. A familiar Rolls-Royce came into view. Her heart leapt into her throat. Nancy recognized the vehicle almost instantly. "Gideon!" She bolted forward and yanked the barely-there car door open. The car was mangled from the crash, and when she pulled, the door actually tore off entirely. Her chest tightened, but the car was empty. "Darling, I'm here." A smooth, magnetic voice came from nearby. Nancy turned to see Gideon subduing a middle-aged man.
