NORA CARUSO.
Five minutes.
He had said it would be five minutes. I sat in the back of the armored SUV, my hands clenched so tightly in my lap that the bandage on my left hand felt like it was cutting off my circulation.
I stared out the tinted window at the front door, my imagination was running wild, painting horrific scenarios of what was happening in that hallway. Was Renata screaming at him? Was he threatening her? Was he telling her the truth about our marriage? Or worse... was she telling him something about me?
"Ma'am?" the driver glanced at me in the rearview mirror. "Do you need water?"
"No," I snapped, then immediately softened my tone. It wasn't his fault that my life was imploding. "No. Thank you, Sergey."
I checked the dashboard clock, it’s been seven minutes. Why was he taking so long? If he just went back to tell her to stay away, it should have taken seconds. The fact that they were talking actually conversing made a cold knot of dread tighten in my stomach. Renata was
