Elena’s POV
I didn’t hesitate. The moment Maurene returned, my first priority was to bring her to Grandma at the nursing home. Grandma had carried that bitter grudge for years, ever since Maurene disappeared without a trace. Now that she was finally back, it was only fair that Grandma saw her.
I didn't tell Maurene where we were going. So when she climbed into the car, she thought we were heading out shopping. She was all smiles, practically bouncing in her seat. But the moment the car stopped in front of the nursing home, her face twisted.
"Where the hell are we?" she snapped.
"Grandma’s nursing home," I said. "She’s been missing you all this time. Don’t you want to see her?"
It was weird. Maurene hadn’t even asked about Grandma once since she returned. Cold. Even for her.
"No. I don’t want to see her. And I thought we were going shopping," she replied, crossing her arms.
