Lucas Bennett had already stepped out but turned back at the last second, jamming his foot in the elevator door.
He looked at Claire Richards and said, “Think about what I told you. I’ll be staying here for a while. If you change your mind, you know where to find me.”
Claire responded without missing a beat, “Alright.”
No need to drag it out. The sooner he moved his foot and let them go, the better.
As for his offer? She couldn’t care less.
“Claire,” Lucas looked at her, eyes deep and unreadable. “I would never hurt you. Between us… there’s been more good than bad, hasn’t there?”
What he really meant was that only the last year of their eight-year history went sour.
Claire smiled. “What’s done is done—good or bad.”
More good than bad? Yeah, right. If she started weighing that, she’d only fall back into that emotional trap, stuck in circles, unable to escape.
