Chapter 25 Ambiguous
Although Curtis was confident that his identity remained well-hidden and undiscovered by Sabrina, he couldn't help but entertain a lingering suspicion when he heard Sabrina voluntarily offer to accompany him. Did Sabrina find out about his true identity?
But regardless of whether she knew or not, Curtis didn't want to add any complications to the matter at hand, so he rejected her outright. "No need. You're too soft-hearted. If Grandpa refuses to go, you might just agree with him and let him have his way."
Sabrina widened her eyes in disbelief. How could he even suggest such a thing? She would never do something like that; one's health was of utmost importance!
"I would never do such a thing. I care about Daniel’s health as much as you do, and I also hope he lives a long and healthy life."
"I said there's no need. I'll go alone with Grandpa."
Curtis's stubbornness left Sabrina stunned. She was only offering help out of pure kindness, but Curtis's response made her feel hurt. If that's how he felt, it was better not to say anything more.
"Well, if you end up needing any help, you can always call me. I'm done with breakfast, so I'll go talk to Grandpa now."
Sabrina promptly got up, cleared her plate in the kitchen, and then approached Daniel's room.
She knocked on the door, and Daniel's irritated voice came from inside, "I've said it many times, I’m fine, and I don't need to see a doctor. What part of that don't you understand?"
Daniel was extremely angry, and he opened the door, ready to give whoever was outside a piece of his mind. To his surprise, it wasn't Curtis but Sabrina.
The two of them stared at each other in silence for a moment before Daniel walked past Sabrina and into the living room.
"You're going too far, Curtis! What are you thinking, sending Sabrina to change my mind? Let me tell both of you, I absolutely won't go to the hospital for a check-up today!"
Daniel refused to budge and even seemed ready to plant his butt down on the floor as a display of protest.
Sabrina saw that and quickly approached, pulling him up.
"Grandpa, please go for a check-up. Even if you're in great health, consider it a simple routine check for our peace of mind."
Sabrina's tone was gentle, which made Daniel feel more comfortable compared to Curtis's firm stance. Even though he appreciated Sabrina's attitude, he still didn't want to go to the hospital.
"I really am in excellent health. Look at me now; I can run up and down the stairs without a problem."
Daniel desperately wanted to prove his good health, but the more he insisted, the more Curtis and Sabrina became worried.
Curtis closed the newspaper he was reading, placed it on the coffee table, and stood up, addressing Daniel sternly. "Grandpa, today's hospital visit isn't up for discussion. I'm not asking you; I'm telling you. You must go for a check-up today, no matter what."
Daniel, who had finally started to budge, heard Curtis's words and became uncooperative again. He stood up and walked toward his room, forcefully slamming the door shut.
"I said I won't go, and if you have the guts, go ahead and break down this door!"
Curtis frowned in frustration. Seriously, the older his grandpa grew, the more difficult he was to manage.
Sabrina approached the door and knocked softly. She spoke soothingly and gently as she continued to persuade Daniel to go with them for the check-up. However, Daniel remained adamant and refused to cooperate.
In the end, Curtis couldn't tolerate it any longer.
Since the old man had suggested that he use force to open the door, he decided to comply with his wishes.
"Sabrina, you should head to work now. I'll handle things from here," Curtis said calmly and emotionlessly.
Sabrina, hearing Curtis's words, grew even more concerned.
It was precisely because Curtis didn't consider Daniel's feelings in the matter that Daniel was so resistant. She worried that leaving Curtis alone with Daniel might result in them demolishing the entire house.
"Off you go to work! You might be late if you stay any longer, and you'll lose your perfect attendance record," Curtis added, his patience wearing thin. He needed Sabrina to leave so he could summon his guys to do his bidding.
Despite her concerns, Sabrina knew when to yield. Before leaving, she stood at the door, still worried, and offered one last piece of advice, "Grandpa is actually very easy to talk to. Don't be so forceful with him. Just talk nicely to him, and this problem will go away."
"Sure," Curtis replied dismissively while taking out his phone.
Seeing him like this, Sabrina knew that he hadn’t understood her words at all.
Once Sabrina had left, Curtis made a phone call and summoned his guys. In less than twenty minutes, the door to Daniel's room was broken open.
Daniel was then escorted out of his room by two tall bodyguards. His face was dark with anger. He had never been treated like this before, except by his own stupid grandson.
"Curtis, how could you let them break into my room and drag me out like this? You've crossed the line! Are you asking to get kicked out of this house?!"
"Grandpa, if you had agreed to go to the hospital for a check-up, I wouldn't have had to resort to this method. Please calm down. Let’s just go to the hospital and get over with it."
Curtis put away his phone, waved his hand, and had the bodyguards carry Daniel out of the apartment.
Daniel's face was extremely unsightly. Did Curtis do this on purpose to put him on the spot?
Daniel valued his reputation and wouldn't want to make a scene in public. He wished he had a cloth to hide his face to prevent people from recognizing him. Being escorted out like this was terribly embarrassing.
As several luxury cars sped away from the apartment building, bystanders were in astonishment.
Were there such wealthy people in their neighborhood? If only they had seen who entered the cars, they might have taken the opportunity to greet them.
While at work, Sabrina couldn't help but worry about Daniel's situation. Several times, she picked up her phone with the intention of calling Curtis but ultimately refrained from making the call.
After finishing work and leaving the office, Sabrina bumped into Aaron near the company building. Aaron looked incredibly disheveled and had bruises on his face, and his clothes were in tatters.
Sabrina could tell immediately that Aaron had been severely beaten, but she had no idea who could have done such a thing. If only she knew who was responsible for it, she would personally thank them for carrying out the deed that she had longed to do herself.
