Chapter 629 Stay
Lindsey wanted to ask Sieben what this was all about, but seeing how sleepy Sieben was, she did not say more.
After the police officers left, Soren took Sieben back home, and Mrs. Wendy took Dezi back to his room, leaving Lindsey and Zayn staring at each other in the living room.
Given their current relationship, the atmosphere was a little awkward for a while.
"How did you get here?" Lindsey remembered asking him this at first.
Zayn pressed his eyebrows and did not answer her question. Instead, he just said out of the blue, "I haven't slept in two days."
Lindsey blinked and said, "Then why don’t you go home to sleep?"
"I didn't bring a driver and drove here myself." Zayn's eyes narrowed and seemed to be exhausted. He also had dark circles under his eyes, so it seemed quite believable that he lost two days of sleep.
After he said that, he looked at Lindsey and tried to strengthen his case. "If I drive back now, I'll probably get into a car accident."
"Then I'll call you an Uber." Lindsey raised her eyebrows and looked at him. Her eyes were calm without the slightest emotion.
Zayn did not say anything and only looked at Lindsey. At this time, Mrs. Wendy just finished tucking Dezi into bed and walked out of the child's room.
"Why are you both standing there?" Mrs. Wendy looked at them incredulously. "Hurry up and get to bed now..."
Zayn shook his head like he had a headache and directed his sob story to Mrs. Wendy. "I haven’t slept in two days. I came in a hurry so I didn’t bring a driver." He was trying to play the pity card on a different target.
When Mrs. Wendy heard that, she went up to him in a few steps and looked at him with disapproval. "Did you work overtime again? Why don’t you ever know how to take care of yourself? Two days without sleep?! Are you trying to be Buddha?"
She kept nagging as Lindsey just stood there and watched, but she felt that Zayn was up to something.
"You didn’t even bring your driver? It’s so late now, how are you gonna go back? I should’ve asked Soren to take you in for the night."
After saying that, Mrs. Wendy paced around and glared at Zayn two more times to scold him with her eyes. She then looked at Lindsey cautiously.
Lindsey took a deep breath and knew that this was Zayn’s intention all along. Seeing that he rushed over in the middle of the night when he heard that they might be in trouble, Lindsey reluctantly accepted him. Before Mrs. Wendy said anything, Lindsey raised her hands and said, “Okay okay...you can sleep with Dezi, but you better leave first thing in the morning."
Her words were directed at Zayn. After she finished, she sighed helplessly and turned to go back to her room, leaving Mrs. Wendy and Zayn alone.
Mrs. Wendy stretched out her hand and lightly slapped Zayn’s arm. "Did you really go two days without sleep, or are you faking it?"
Zayn stretched out a finger and shook it from side to side, then slowly said, "It’s fake!"
The look on Mrs. Wendy's face was somewhat amusing for a moment. To sum it up, it was basically a mix of understanding and annoyance. She did not know if she should laugh or cry.
"You should also sleep early." Zayn nodded at her and went into Dezi's room in a few steps.
Zayn would much prefer to sleep next door, but he knew that it was simply impossible.
Getting to stay was already an opportunity. Zayn thought, ‘It’s almost been a year...’ He almost forgot what home felt like. He needed to take back all these things that he missed.
That night, although these thrilling events were not directed at her, Lindsey still felt like her heart was running on overdrive. Zayn was also just next door.
Lindsey thought that she would not be able to sleep that night, but after lying in bed for a while with random thoughts going through her mind, she suddenly felt drowsy and fell asleep.
On the other side, Sieben and Soren went back upstairs.
Just after entering the apartment, Soren suddenly turned around and pinned Sieben to the wall. Sieben pushed him, but he did not budge, so she frowned and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Don't act cute." Soren raised his eyebrows. "Who the hell is that man, and what is he doing here?"
Sieben just said, "I don’t know..."
Before she finished, Soren suddenly lowered his head and bit her lips. "Liar, try again!"
Sieben did not look the slightest bit embarrassed from being caught in a lie. She smiled cheekily and put her arms around Soren, gently encircling him. She smiled like a little scoundrel and said, "With such punishment, you make me wanna keep lying..."
Soren did not have the patience to flirt with her at this moment. He looked at Sieben with a very serious expression. "If you keep lying to me, I’ll really get angry."
His tone was calm and he did not look much angrier than before, but Sieben paused for a few seconds and surprisingly stopped laughing. She pouted and said reluctantly, "Must I say it?"
Soren nodded solemnly. "Yes."
"Fine..." Sieben wrapped herself around Soren like a koala. After Soren could not resist reaching out to hold her, she let out a small sigh and whined, "I’m so tired...carry me back to bed and I'll tell you."
Soren did not speak. His silent and wordless gesture was endearing. He carried Sieben back to the bedroom step by step.
He got into bed with Sieben in his arms. Sieben nestled in his embrace with his arms around her before she sighed contentedly.
Sieben bit her lip and rarely looked so hesitant and torn. Soren waited patiently for her and did not rush her, but he was uncompromising either.
"Actually, he's the same person from last time." Sieben dawdled for a long time and finally opened her mouth.
Soren wrinkled his brows. "The person who attacked you?"
Sieben nodded very slowly and added, "He didn’t do it on purpose. He just wanted to talk to me, but he probably didn't think that I’d forget about him at the time. That's why he accidentally hurt me."
Soren heard that she was even speaking for that man. This obvious defensive gesture made his blood boil.
"If he doesn’t mean to, then why did he appear all of a sudden? Why didn’t he contact you in advance?"
Sieben looked at Soren and blinked her large eyes. She did not understand why he was suddenly so mad. "No, don’t be so agitated. His identity is rather special, so it’s not convenient to contact me directly. At that time, I didn't even remember anything, so it’d be useless if he contacted me anyway."
The more she explained, the angrier Soren became. He thought about the time when the three of them were fighting earlier. Just when he was about to subdue the man, Sieben went up and hurt the man, which forced him to leave.
Soren was baffled. If that man was an old acquaintance, why did he have to keep showing up like this?
He did not speak, so Sieben held his hand and gently stroked his back. Feeling his gradually relaxed breathing, Sieben slowly exhaled.
"You probably already know that I used to be from The Shadow." Sieben buried her head in Soren's chest and said in a soft voice, "He’s my senior, and he’s like an older brother to me."
