Chapter 165 Do You Want Lindsey?
"Mr. Emerson, it’s really not up to me. All I did was call the police. It was your capable son that did everything himself - fighting, raping, gambling, and smoking all kinds of things. Even if I wanted to sabotage him, there was nothing left for me to do."
As Zayn said that, he rubbed his wrist and even smiled as if he truly admired Ian Emerson’s capability.
Kai Emerson was rendered speechless, but his wife next to him stood out. "Ian’s just a kid and doesn’t know what’s good for him. He was only mixing with the wrong crowd. Mr. Guggenheim, please save him."
As she said this, she was about to cry again but Zayn raised his hand to stop her. "Don’t degrade the word, 'kid'."
His voice was so cold that Mrs. Emerson did not even dare to cry, but Zayn did not intend to show any mercy. "You guys can leave. If I find out that you harass my wife again, then I promise that the rest of your son's life will be a lot more...interesting."
The couple’s faces turned pale in an instant. Mrs. Emerson still wanted to retort, but she was pulled by Kai and they went downstairs. Although they could no longer see the couple, they could still vaguely hear Mrs. Emerson's cries and curses.
Zayn turned to look at Lindsey with an apologetic face. He looked completely different from the cold and sharp man that he was earlier. "I’m sorry I didn't handle it well and let them harass you."
Lindsey glanced at him, but quickly lowered her head. "I don't blame you."
The two of them were standing at each side of the door and the atmosphere was harmonious and quiet.
Allie was still standing behind Lindsey when she poked her head out. "Hi, Mr. Guggenheim."
Zayn looked like he had just seen her, nodded, and said, "Ms. Wilford, it's so late. Aren’t you going home yet?"
His words were polite, but he was clearly chasing her away.
There was a hint of gloom on Allie's face, which was quickly concealed. "I was about to leave, but didn't expect to run into these people."
"It's very late. Do take care on your way home."
Lindsey looked at Zayn and always felt that his attitude towards Allie was odd.
The way he put it, it would be inconsiderate of Allie to overstay her welcome.
After sending Allie off, Lindsey found that Zayn was still standing at her door looking like he was waiting for her to return.
Lindsey was surprised that she had used the word "wait" and somehow thought of what Zayn had said to her when they first met after she returned to the country. "You're finally back."
Back then, she could not understand the meaning behind that statement, but now, she suddenly felt something.
Zayn was holding his phone, scrolling through it with a bored expression. When he saw Lindsey return, he remained leaning against the wall. His voice was cold but charming as he said, "I’ve given you ample time, have you considered it? Can you tell me your answer?"
Lindsey did not know if it was the angle that she was standing against the light, but she felt that there was a flicker of light under his eyes.
These days, she did seriously consider this question and finally found that answering it was not all that difficult.
Zayn looked straight at Lindsey and his burning gaze made her feel like running away.
"Tell me your answer."
Lindsey pressed her lips together and told herself there was nothing difficult about this. She slowly said, “I agree.”
When she said these two words, she was inexplicably nervous.
Zayn was visibly delighted, but it was not the same as the usual laughter or quirk that people had when they were happy. His happiness was subtle, but the smile on his face deepened.
"It's late. I'm heading in," Lindsey said.
"Okay."
Just as Lindsey was about to enter, Zayn asked again, "So when are we moving back to the mansion?"
Lindsey paused in her footsteps. The mansion had too many unpleasant memories of them and she had not thought about how she should face them.
Although the relationship between the two seemed to have improved, Lindsey was still a little reticent.
"I don’t really want to move back for now," She said straightforwardly.
A trace of disappointment flashed across Zayn's face, but he also knew that he should not rush it. He said in a low voice, "Okay. Good night then."
The atmosphere between the two of them had eased a lot and they no longer fought every time they met, so Lindsey also nodded and said, "Good night."
It was not until she laid in bed that she had time to think carefully about the news that the Emersons brought tonight.
She felt that Zayn probably got involved somehow. Otherwise, the couple would not have gone to her so recklessly.
Lindsey thought that Zayn was just exerting pressure so that the Emersons could not bail Ian Emerson out. What she never imagined was the kind of life Ian was living in the detention center.
The more docile Zayn was in front of her, the more ruthless he was to those who tried to hurt her.
On the other side, Allie had gotten all the information about Shaun and Lindsey. The information she got was just as she expected, that Shaun liked Lindsey. After Lindsey's accident, Shaun even confronted Zayn and the two of them brawled in broad daylight.
That night was a sleepless night for many people. Liam received a phone call late at night, so he rushed abroad overnight. Before he left, he did not forget to instruct his men to keep a close eye on Lindsey’s movements.
The news of her brother's departure was a great relief to Allie, who began to cook up her own plans.
When Shaun heard that someone was looking for him downstairs, his first thought was that the person who came was Yvette Wendell. He was just about to say no when his secretary said, "Mr. Juhl, the other party said that she’s Ms. Wilford, a friend of Ms. Juhl."
The receptionist did not know what this person's identity was and why she was so confident that Mr. Juhl would see her, but the girl in front of her just looked at her with confidence.
A few moments later, the receptionist hung up the phone and smiled sweetly. "This way, please. Ms. Wilford, our President happened to be available at this time."
Shaun's secretary led Allie into Shaun’s office. After seeing her, Shaun had a gentle smile as he asked, "Ms. Wilford, what do you want to see me about?"
Allie looked at the elegant gentleman in front of her that was charming and handsome. She could not help but sigh in her heart. Lindsey really had excellent luck.
She first smiled sweetly and revealed her pearly whites, then her red lips parted slightly as she said word by word, "Do you want Lindsey?"
Shaun frowned. This time, he looked at Allie with hostile eyes.
"Ms. Wilford, if there’s nothing else, please leave."
Allie was not surprised by his attitude. She still kept a light smile on her face and sat down modestly as she laid out her bargaining chips. "Mr. Juhl, don't you want to know what happened to Lindsey in the six months she disappeared?"
"If I do, I’d ask her myself. Lindsey will naturally tell me if she’s willing to talk about it, so this is none of your business, Ms. Wilford."
"Mr. Juhl, you said so yourself that it depends on whether Lindsey’s willing to talk about it. I think she’ll never be willing to talk about it nor will she be willing to recall those memories again." Allie was not in a hurry. She was trying to induce Shaun's concern and heartache for Lindsey.
Sure enough, Shaun's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
