Chapter 87 Talking To You Is No Use
Unaware of his lack of perceptiveness, Caelan persisted. He said, "Talking to you is useless; I must consult Charlotte. Perhaps you could step aside, or I could seek her out in her office."
After pouring herself a glass of water, Charlotte settled into Luke's desk, "You can speak here. Luke should hear this, too."
Luke, prone to jealousy, kept every detail close to his heart. This is something that Charlotte had only recently realized.
The last time Caelan had taken Luke's fruit to eat, she noticed a subtle shift in Luke's expression. Yet, he remained silent.
Caelan raised an eyebrow, feeling that the matter was not too private to discuss in their presence, "Sofia's birthday is approaching, and I'd like you to design a ring... a pair, actually. I plan to gift her with couple rings."
Charlotte laughed heartily, thinking, 'He's more aware of matters regarding love than I had thought.'
Once Charlotte grasped his intention, she nodded at him, "What style do you prefer?"
Caelan shook his head, "I'm not sure. I'm not familiar with women's jewelry."
Understanding what his response really meant, Charlotte realized her question was unnecessary. She had just silently commended him, only to have him quickly show his true colors.
However, his admission was honest. Many young men lack insight into women's preferences.
As Sofia's best friend, Charlotte possessed some knowledge in this matter. She had visited her home, perused Sofia's wardrobe, and observed the jewelry styles in her collection.
"Forget it; asking you is pointless. I'll start the design. If you find the final product satisfactory, we can use it."
Caelan was grateful, knowing he would be overwhelmed by the multitude of choices in a store. He wanted to surprise Sofia, so he could not take her along to pick. To ensure a perfect choice, he sought Charlotte's help.
After discussing this, Caelan turned to Luke, "What did you use when you proposed to Charlotte?"
Engrossed in the latest financial magazine, Luke replied, "I designed our engagement and wedding rings over a week. I learned and did everything, from sketching to manufacturing."
Impressed, Caelan said, "I didn't expect you to be so romantic, Luke. Why didn't I think of that?"
Not intending to dampen his enthusiasm but doubting his capability, Luke said, "Forget it. With your skills, you probably couldn't create something like that."
Caelan acknowledged, "True. I can't make such things."
Luke said, "Leave it to Charlotte, and you won't have to worry."
Charlotte nodded in agreement, "Yes, leave it to me."
Caelan had contemplated proposing to Sofia. But considering their relatively short time together, he feared she might decline. To avoid straining their relationship, he decided to postpone the matter.
Despite stating his purpose, Caelan stayed in the office. Charlotte had already begun sketching the rough outline of a ring. However, dissatisfied, she flipped the page and started anew.
Breaking the silence, Luke asked, "Have you decided where to celebrate her birthday this time?"
Caelan pulled out his phone, showing Luke the hotel he had booked, "How about this place?"
Luke glanced at the phone screen, recognizing The Annelton – a notoriously difficult hotel to book, often requiring a six-month wait. Luke commented, "Isn't it tough to get a reservation there? With such short notice, how did you manage?"
Caelan smirked, "It's all about 'financial power.' I booked the entire hotel, and they had no choice but to inform the other guests of a 'necessary elevator repair' to postpone their stay."
Luke responded, "I see."
Charlotte continued her drawing, not paying attention to their conversation. She only caught the mention of The Annelton, assuming they were discussing an upcoming party there.
The day flew by, and Charlotte had almost completed the design of the pair of rings. Once satisfied, she presented the sketch to Caelan for his approval.
Caelan spent the entire day lounging on the sofa, showing no signs of leaving. Caelan had no trips planned, and Sofia was usually busy with work. This gave him the most free time among the four of them.
Charlotte approached them with her sketchbook in hand, "What do you think of this design?"
The female ring featured a delicate bow adorned with a round pink diamond, exuding charm and aligning with Sofia's usual style. The male ring, in contrast, was simpler. It resembled a bow tie typically seen on formal suits, centered with a pink diamond.
Such a vibrant color was rare in men's jewelry, but Charlotte believed Caelan would accept it for his dear friend.
Caelan examined the sketch for a long while. Charlotte, mistaking his silence for dissatisfaction, said, "If there's anything you'd like to change, I can modify it now."
Caelan gestured his approval, "It's perfect; she'll love it."
He remembered Sofia owning a pink diamond necklace with a fairly large stone, suggesting her fondness for pink. He felt fortunate to have sought Charlotte's help, as she had effortlessly created something Sofia would cherish, saving him considerable effort.
"Alright, then I'll have it made tomorrow at work. It should be ready before her birthday. But now that you're giving rings, what should I give her?" Charlotte said.
