Chapter 8
Vanessa turned around, and the two men breathed a sigh of relief when they confirmed that she wasn't angry.
Keanu took a few steps forward and grabbed her hand. "You don't need to pack your luggage. It's too much and too tiring. I'll have my driver come over later, and we'll move it to our new home together."
Seamus also nodded in agreement.
At this moment, Vanessa seemed to find the shadow of their former selves in these two people.
Remember when we were young, I loved to talk and you loved to laugh.
But now, youthful vows have turned into mere words on paper.
Vanessa looked at Hannah Zahn and shook her head. "No need. I want to sort out a lot of things myself."
After saying that, she didn't care about the two men's expressions and turned around to leave.
After returning home, she packed her luggage for a while, washed up, and just lay down when she suddenly received a call from Hannah Zahn.
Her saccharine voice oozed through the receiver, with an unmasked sense of pride in her tone.
"Nessa, tonight I went to the Lowes' and the Kleins'. Keanu and Seamus' parents were all very nice to me."
"Their parents even fetched ancestral treasures to bestow upon me. Do you think they are..."
Vanessa calmly interrupted her boasting. "I'm not interested in your affairs. You don't need to tell me these things. They're none of my business."
As soon as she finished speaking, she hung up the phone.
The day before she left, Vanessa went out.
She had specially invited her best friend Mila out for dinner today. She didn't have many friends in Xerton, and from childhood to adulthood, Keanu and Seamus had strictly limited her social circle. Not only did they not let her date boys or receive love letters from boys, but they even interfered with her making girl friends.
Back then, they pitifully said, "Nessa, isn't having us enough? You're so good, I'm afraid girls will like you too."
Their possessiveness towards her was terrifying, hoping that she could only see them.
But now, it was they who pushed her away.
In a newly opened Western restaurant, Mila had been sitting at the table waiting for a while.
As soon as she saw Vanessa, Mila gave her a big hug. Thinking about her leaving, her reluctance rose again.
"Nessa, I never thought you would go back to Jirphia to get married. I can't bear to part with you."
"I originally thought you would marry either Keanu or Seamus and stay in Xerton. That way, we could still go out and play together often."
Vanessa smiled faintly upon hearing this. "They have other choices, and so do I."
Upon hearing this, Mila also felt a bit deflated.
She thought of Hannah Zahn, and her face instantly turned sour. She angrily said,
"Before, you were so good to that Hannah Zahn, but she..."
Vanessa smiled and interrupted her. "Forget it, don't talk about these insignificant people anymore. After I get married, I won't see her anymore, and whatever she does has nothing to do with me."
As soon as she finished speaking, Hannah Zahn walked into the restaurant.
Since Vanessa and Mila's table was near the door, she heard half of the conversation, but not completely. She immediately came over curiously. "Nessa, who is getting married? Can I attend? I haven't attended a wedding before!"
Vanessa rarely encountered such a person without a sense of boundaries, but perhaps because she was used to her antics, and also because she was about to leave, she wasn't angry, but calm.
On the contrary, Mila clattered her cutlery onto the plate with violent precisio and glaring at Hannah Zahn.
"My wedding! You have no place at my wedding. Are you satisfied with this answer?"
"Do you even have a sense of boundaries? Are we close to you? What do you have to be curious about? Would you even taste the slop from a passing waste cart with a ladle to check its flavor?"
Mila's voice was slightly loud, and her words were harsh. Hannah Zahn's body suddenly flinched, as if she was scared, and tears instantly rolled down.
She sobbed sadly and immediately looked at Keanu and Seamus, who had just entered the restaurant behind her. Her eyes full of desire to speak but holding back were filled with pleading.
Keanu didn't know the cause and effect. As soon as he came in, he saw Hannah Zahn in such a pitiful state, and instinctively frowned, pulling her into his arms.
"As long as I'm here, as long as you want, you have the qualifications to attend anyone's wedding."
Seamus even vied to say, "And me too! Forget about weddings, if you want stars, I'll climb a ladder to pick you a fresh one. Don't mind those irrelevant people."
The two men, one on the left and one on the right, finally managed to make Hannah Zahn stop crying and smile.
