Chapter 23
Hendrick, without a moment's hesitation, dropped to his knees. His knees struck the floor with a heavy thump, then he looked up at Savannah with an expectant gaze.
Savannah managed a strained smile, then turned and walked away. "I'm not one to find gratification in causing pain to others, though. I meant it when I said I no longer love you, Hendrick."
She then walked away without even looking back, utterly demolishing the glimmer of hope Hendrick had just felt.
Hendrick, completely forgoing his pride, scrambled to his feet and caught Savannah's wrist. "P-Please don't leave, Sav! I-I have something else to show you. I have just one last thing to show you."
He pleaded desperately, his voice even catching with a sob, a sight and sound that would have made anyone doubt this was truly Hendrick.
Savannah said nothing but remained, trailing after Hendrick.
They made their way to the third floor, where no one lived. There was nothing there except for a confined, locked room.
