Chapter 1006 Head to Clearwater Residence For Your Stuff

Seeing his drenched shoulder, I frowned. "We can catch up another time, it's late. Head back. The rain's a beast." I tried to make a break for it with my sorry excuse for an umbrella overhead. However, he blocked my path and offered his umbrella. "Let's chat somewhere dry." I could not help but think the guy had a screw loose. There was a torrential downpour, and the night fell like a curtain. Yet, he insisted on a heart-to-heart right then and there. Could it not wait? His clothes were drenched. "How about we catch up another time? I..." I started, but the words were snatched away by the wind as my umbrella took flight. "Ah..." I reached out, but in a flash, Idris had me by the arm and was pulling me close. His dark eyes were locked onto mine. He sheltered me with his umbrella, almost completely shielding me from the rain. "Don't bother chasing it," he said, his gaze softening. "You'll catch your death in this downpour." I knew that, of course. However, seeing him soaked to the bone, I could not help but frown. "You're the one getting drenched. Head back and we can talk later." "It's just a few words. I'll be on my way after," he replied, his voice low and heavy. With no choice, I nodded and looked up at him. I braced myself for whatever he had to say. However, he just stared at me, silent. The wind was relentless. "You..." I prompted. "You've got some stuff left at Clearwater Residence. Swing by when you can," he finally said. I blinked, puzzled. I had no clue what he was talking about, but I agreed. "Sure." I waited for more, but there was nothing. There was just a long, silent exchange before he shoved the umbrella into my hands and walked away. He left me to watch as he got into his car. He drove against the driving rain and disappeared down the street. I stood there, the silence heavy and my voice lost. He had waited in that deluge just to tell me to pick up some things? A text or a call would have done the trick. Why go through all that hassle? Staring at the black umbrella and then at mine, I let out a sigh. He was becoming more of a mystery with each passing day. I got home, took a soothing hot shower, and spent some quality time playing with the kids. I hit the sack early. I must have been wiped out from the day's shopping because I slept right through Astoria's calls. It was only the next morning that I noticed her two missed calls on my phone. I redialed, and she picked up right away. "Ms. Scott, you're up?" Astoria's voice came through, tinged with weariness. "Yeah," I replied, a twinge of concern in my voice. "I crashed early last night and missed your calls. What's up? Is everything okay with Lucas?" "He's fine, no worries," she quickly cut in. "Lucas is doing great. I just got a little mixed up last night, that's all." "Mixed up about what?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. She let out a nervous laugh. "Remember how I freaked out when Lucas took it off? Well, last night, I went to drop off some meds for him. When I didn't find him in his room, I panicked, thinking he'd left again. "I called you in a rush, but it was a false alarm. He was just in the courtyard. Totally my bad." "Just make sure he stays warm out there at night," I said calmly, keeping my emotions in check. "Of course, I will," she assured me. Then, something seemed to click for her. "Ms. Scott, Dr. Wacket didn't show up yesterday. Did you...?" I knew where she was going with this. "Dr. Wacket might've been tied up with something. He should be there today. He'll keep coming unless Lucas doesn't need him anymore. I won't force it."
