MOMENTS BEFORE THE DISASTER…
My heart felt like it slowed as I took in the lazy smile across her lips. She grabbed onto my hands, using me as some kind of anchor as she prevented me from pushing the swing too far. Her hair glowed differently today….maybe it always did, but for some reason, I felt as though it looked different.
She smelled of cinnamon and spice, a combination I never thought I’d dig, but for her, I might as well think charcoal smelled heavenly.
“Theo?” She said, my name rolling off her tongue in that way that made me feel light. It wasn’t even in a sexual way alone. For some reason, Seraphina owned my very being. Ever since my father died, it felt like I’d finally had a taste of peace. I could see it in my mother and sister as well.
My baby sister wore pretty dresses, something she’d never done for as long as I could remember. She smiled in a way that actually matched her eyes, her steps gay as she’d hop with pure excitement. It was because of that
