After Miranda's parents passed away, Liliana had taken her in out of sympathy. She saw it as the Holdens' responsibility to care for Miranda, so she brought her into their home. Living under someone else's roof, already in love with Lucas, and seeing Liliana as her only support, Miranda naturally grew close to her. Liliana taught her how to act gently and graciously.
