Chapter 199: Don't Get Your Hopes Up
I sat on the couch alone for what felt like forever. By the time I finally walked back to the bedroom, Arthur was already asleep.
I slid under the covers next to him and stared at the ceiling, my mind a tangled mess. No matter how hard I tried, sleep wouldn't come. The stress of everything with my family pressed down like a weight I couldn't shake.
The next day, I was useless at work. My head wasn't in it, and my inbox only grew. As soon as I clocked out, I went straight to look at apartments. Kevin was getting discharged soon, and if I didn't figure this out now, he'd have nowhere to go.
I scoured every rental listing near the hospital and finally found something I could manage. It wasn't big, but the bathroom was accessible and the basics were decent. The rent? Two thousand a month. I signed for one month and handed over the cash.
