Chapter 101

Zane's POV One month passed. In that time, I ran into Garcia more often than I could count. Always unexpected, always unsettling. Sometimes in front of the school. Sometimes on the way back to the hostel. And once, at the end of my morning jog, he just appeared next to me, sweat dripping from his hair, his t-shirt clinging to his perfect V-shaped torso. And now this. He had invited the entire hockey team out to lunch. We were led to a private dining room in a sleek restaurant just off campus, long tables lined with trays of food none of us could have afforded on our own. It wasn't fancy enough to be pretentious, but it had that polished shine that screamed money. The guys couldn't stop talking about it. Laughter, jokes, someone doing a mock toast with a soda can. Garcia sat at the end of the room, talking quietly with Coach, calm, composed—as always. I kept sneaking glances at him between bites, pretending I wasn't. He hadn't looked my way once. But I knew he saw me. He always saw me.
