When morning light filtered through the curtains, I woke up feeling more refreshed and centered than I had in days. Seraphina was still sleeping, her face peaceful and relaxed. Carefully, I slipped out of bed and went to check on Alaric and Celine.
Our twins were awake in their nursery, playing with hanging toys above their cribs. Alaric saw me first and immediately reached out with chubby arms, making demanding sounds. Celine was more content, but her face lit up when she spotted me.
“Good morning, my little ones,” I said softly, picking up Alaric first, then carefully scooping Celine with my other arm. They were getting heavier every day—growing strong and healthy.
Looking at them—at their innocent faces, their trusting eyes—I felt a renewed surge of protective instinct. But this time, it wasn't driven by irrational fear or consuming jealousy. It was clear, focused determination.
