A week had passed since that terrifying night, and my life had become a highly structured routine—and one that was strictly controlled by Kaelos.
This morning, like every morning before, I awoke to the scent of herbal tea and toasted bread. I opened my eyes to find Kaelos already dressed neatly in a black shirt and formal pants, sitting at the edge of the bed with a breakfast tray on his lap.
“Good morning,” he said softly, placing the tray on my nightstand after helping me sit up with a pile of pillows behind my back.
“You don't have to do this every day,” I said for the umpteenth time this week, though my heart warmed at his thoughtfulness.
“I know,” he replied as he carefully poured the tea. “But I want to.”
I watched her as she arranged everything with almost military precision—tea on the right, toast with jam in the middle, fresh fruit on the left, and prenatal vitamins on a separate small plate.
