Morning came too soon.
I woke up in Kaelos's arms, the warmth of his body surrounding me like a protective shield. For a few moments—just a few precious moments—I let myself believe that everything would be okay. That the DNA test would prove Jessica wrong, and we could continue our lives in peace.
But the strange feeling in my stomach—which wasn't from the baby—told me otherwise.
“Good morning,” Kaelos whispered in my ear, his voice still hoarse from sleep. “Did you sleep well?”
“Pretty well,” I replied, turning to face him. His face looked more relaxed this morning, the lines of tension on his forehead slightly faded. He believed his own words from last night. He was truly convinced that the child was not his.
I hoped he was right.
A loud knock on the door startled us both. “Alpha! Luna!” Archer's voice sounded urgent. “The test results are in. Dr. Morrison is in your office.”
Kaelos and I exchanged glances. My heart was beating so fast that I felt dizzy.
