As the workday came to an end, everyone stretched and slowly got back to their desks to finish up before clocking out. By 5:30 pm, most of Avery's coworkers were shutting down their computers, ready to call it a day. Avery, too, had completed her tasks and felt a small sense of pride—her workflow had improved so much compared to last year. Everything felt easier now. "Ave, no overtime today, right? Let's head out together," a coworker called out to her, stretching. Just as Avery was about to reply, her phone buzzed on her desk. It was a message from Mason. "Just finished the meeting. I'm on my way back. Wait for me." Avery glanced at the text and then looked at her coworker. "I have a couple of things to finish up. You guys go ahead without me." "Alright, see you tomorrow!" "Bye, Ave!" She waved at them with a smile. Once they left, she didn't actually return to work. Instead, she shot Mason a quick reply and opened a simple game on her computer to pass the time.
