Chapter 45
♡ Lauren’s POV ♡
Chris and I are on our way to lunch. We are currently having a heated discussion about which animals make the best pets. I'm betting on dogs because cat shit smells bad and dogs are loyal. I can't leave the room to a cat that poops around, eats old shit and scratches you. Yeah, shit. No, I'm good with puppies. But some people don't think so, which brings us to the present scene.
"Are you crazy? Cats are cuter.” "Chris said rhetorically.
"Some of them, have you forgotten the cats without fur? "I winced when I remembered the cat I saw yesterday. God, it's not cute at all, it even hisses at me like I shaved it.
"Hey, they're still cute! ” Chris pouted. It makes me roll my eyes at his cuteness. Could this guy be any cuter?
"Man, dogs are the best. End of discussion! ” I stuck out my tongue boyishly and made him giggle.
"No, they're not. They bark a lot and sniff their butts.” He told me, raising his eyebrows.
"Better than eating rats and shitting out of your reach! ” I challenged him with raised eyebrows.
"Yes, you have a point, but I still insist that cats are cuter.” He sighed in defeat.
"Well, they are, but they're demons in disguise.” I pointed out.
"Well said.” He smiled and agreed.
By the time we finished talking, we were in the lunch line. Chris was standing in front of me, still talking about cute cats, and MY attention was focused on a muscular guy who was talking to a girl.
He turned gently so that I could see his face, and my heart jumped into my throat as my senses came back quickly. My feelings for him didn't go away. It was Magee who was talking to a very beautiful girl.
They seemed to have a heated conversation as she flirted openly with him. He seemed to enjoy the attention as he threw back his head and let out a raucous laugh.
My heart thumped at the sound of his laughter, and I tried to stop myself from looking like a fool. The guy got ahead of us. Lauren, you don't deserve it. Even though I knew it might be true, I still couldn't stop loving him. He destroyed me for someone else.
He must have felt my gaze, for now his eyes were upon me. When our eyes spoke for us, neither of us could speak. I could see love in his eyes before he quickly hid it and became indifferent. I didn't want to ruin our staring contest, because it was the first time I had ever really looked at his face.
He looked exhausted and had dark circles under his eyes. But it doesn't make him look bad, if anything makes him look manly. He looked fucking hot, a five o 'clock shadow, which made me even sadder because I couldn't get close to him.
"Lauren. Chris snapped his fingers in front of me to bring me back to reality. I realized we were now standing in front waiting for impatient cooks to serve food. I gave them an embarrassed smile and grabbed a sandwich and juice. When Chris laughed at me, I walked away quickly.
"Sorry, I got distracted.” I told Chris as we sat down in chairs in the cafeteria to eat. I feel a little guilty for not listening to him earlier.
"Yes, I can see that you and Magee made love openly with your eyes.” He laughed at me and wiggled his eyebrows.
"Oh my God, shut up, you're embarrassing me! ” I covered my face with my hands when I was in an awkward situation. Hearing this, Chris burst out laughing. Then he pulled me into a hug and playfully ruffled my hair.
'Oh, nugget, don't be ashamed! Chris playfully tugged at my hair. I patted his hand and gave him an impish stare.
We were suddenly taken aback by the noise. When I looked up, Magee stood up and threw the chair. Then he banged his fist on the table. He looked at us angrily and stomped out of the cafeteria.
I looked in bewilderment at where he had been seconds earlier. What's wrong with him? I feel sad because I can't go to him and check on him.
Hearing the scrape of a chair, I looked at the criminal. It was the girl Magee was talking to. She stood up and rushed out after him. It made me angry to see it. I took it out on my poor sandwich. I chewed loudly as I thought of different ways to kill that bitch.
Okay, maybe that's a little extreme. Maybe I should cut her hair, or should I say, shave off her eyebrows? I grinned creepily at the thought.
"Well, should I be scared? "Chris asked, perhaps interrupting me for the fifth time today.
"What? "I asked, completely lost.
"You just stare at the table like you're about to kill somebody," Chris said with a laugh.
"I haven't thought of that.” I told a casual lie. Well, it didn't go well, because Chris laughed louder and even banged the table.
"Yeah, I didn't see you give that girl a dead look.” "He said sarcastically as he gasped with laughter.
Before I could fight back, the bell rang to let us know that lunch was over. After getting up, we went to the trash can to throw out juice bottles and plastic trays.
As we walked out of the cafeteria for our last class, Chris put his arm around my shoulder. There were students in the hallway, and I could feel someone staring at us. Looking around, I didn't see anyone.
"See you after school. I had PE in my last class.” I told Chris we were going our separate ways.
"Oh, I felt the pain of your last gym class.” He winced as he spoke. I smiled and nodded in agreement. I waved to him and went into the locker room.
The rest of the girls must have changed into their tracksuits because there was no one in the locker room. Anyway, that's good, because I don't like changing in front of them. They would stare at my body and make me feel uncomfortable.
I sighed and walked over to the locker where I kept my gym clothes. Opening it, I looked for them and took them out. I was pulling my shirt over my head when I felt someone in the room. I quickly turned around and gasped when I saw who it was.
