Chapter 37
♡ Lauren’s POV ♡
We went in while Terry helped Magee into the back of the car. He dozes off when he sits in the back, making me snicker at his cuteness. I cleared my throat and looked at Albert. He was looking at us happily. I blushed and looked away. Then, as we disappeared from his sight, Luke and I waved.
When we reached Magee's penthouse, Albert had to help me get Magee inside. It was a real struggle. This guy weighs a ton. We put him to bed to rest, and I took off his shoes and socks and put the quilt over him.
We left Albert there while I dropped him off.
"Will you stay? ""Albert asked.
"Yes, I'll stay. Please tell Simon and Bella everything's okay. They must be worried.” I told him.
"I will. See you later.” "He said, giving me a hug.
I went back to my room and saw that Magee must have taken off his shirt when we left. Giggling, I went to join him in bed, exhausted from my previous experience. When I was almost asleep, I felt Magee's arms around me and pulling me to his chest.
I groaned when I felt an uncomfortably heavy weight on my chest. I was so tired that anything on my chest forced me to wake up and take it. I opened my eyes and saw Magee's head on my chest. I gently pushed his head away to wake him up and swear.
He squinted as they adjusted to the sunlight seeping through the curtains. He finally spotted my dishevelled hair.
I rolled my eyes at him, let out a grunt, and stormed out of bed, perhaps even a little dramatically. I must show Magee that he still hurts me by kissing Polly. Even if it was one-sided, I couldn't erase the horrible image from my mind. It makes me sick to even think about it.
I quickly tied my hair with rubber, a band around my wrist. I was about to leave the room when he stopped me, took my back to my chest, and buried his head on my shoulder. I could hear his soft sobs, and I felt the tears roll from his eyes onto my shoulders.
My heart tensed as I felt his body tremble with his silent tears. I turned in his arms and couldn't help but carry him to my side. He distanced himself a little and looked at me with red eyes.
"Please don't leave.” "He whispered.
"I won't.” "I whispered. I couldn't even if I tried.
"I'm sorry.” He grunted, his voice hoarse.
"For what? "I asked, pretending I didn't know what he was apologizing for.
"I don't know why I didn't leave fast enough because Polly was allowed to kiss me. I was so shocked, I never thought she would do this, especially when I told her -- "He stopped for me to look at me. What the fuck did he say to her?
"Tell her what? "I stared at him, my voice stiffening. He shifted uncomfortably and made an unhappy noise.
"HMM. . . I'm in a committed relationship.” 'He answered at last, not daring to look at me, for he drew back.
'You told her about us! I shouted, my anger muffled in my voice.
"No, not exactly about you. I didn't mention names. I just said I was in love with one person and I wasn't interested in anyone else.” He said, avoiding my eyes and looking nervous. He went to the bed and sat on it with his head down.
"Why did you tell her that? "What was he thinking, I asked? The girl was smitten with him, and heaven knows she made it her mission to know who he meant.
I walked over to him and stood between his legs. He finally looked up at me and gripped my thigh tightly. I ran my hand through his soft hair and got a satisfied groan.
"She went to a practice because she was a cheerleader and I didn't know what to tell her, it was the only thing I could say to stop her from asking me to marry her.” "He said, whispering and burying his head in my lap.
I sighed slightly as I weighed the consequences of his words. What if she tells Magee's parents? She doesn't seem to know who it is. . .
I told him, "It's over, that's it.” He looked up hopefully and gave me the eyes of a puppy, knowing I couldn't resist.
"Does this mean you forgive me? ""He murmured.
"Of course I forgive you, Magee! I laughed as I laughed at him. He narrowed his eyes when I called his name.
"Baby, I love you, but don't call me that anymore.” "He said, groaning.
"Did you say you loved me? "I asked, dumbfounded.
He bit his lip and cleared his throat. "Yes, are you all right? "
"I just. . .” I started, but when I said "but," I saw his face fall
"I don't think you love me more than I love you.” I brazenly continued, watching his face light up as he heard the true words come out of my mouth. He pulled me onto him, and we were both giggling with delight.
