The words made the room heavier than it already was but Damon or Serena couldn’t deny that what I said was the truth.
Even though it was my words, a chill had settled in my bones but I refused to acknowledge it as fear.
Serena sat quietly, slumped against the couch. She didn’t say anything else but she knew I was right.
Her eyes were distant and it felt like she had retreated somewhere unreachable. Grief would do that to someone.
Her shoulders shook as she cried. I felt bad as I watched her break all over again. It was a difficult situation, I admitted. No one would want to kill a relative a second time but we were going to need her help.
Alice wasn’t just a threat. She was a nightmare that had once been buried and now clawed her way out of the grave.
“Serena” I sighed pitifully and held both of her hands in mine “There is nothing to be scared of or feel guilty about. You did all you could”
“I know that now. I just wish things would have been different”
