Chapter 19
Beth’s POV
I heard the good news that all werewolves who were struck by the plague were healed. I smiled after hearing this and took the injection again. Only this time, it reacted badly to me.
The fire that scorched through my body only moments before has faded, ending as quickly as it had begun, and leaving weak, burnt bones and muscles in its place, making my whole body ache.
This aching sensation has given me back control of my body; I’m not flipping around anymore, but shaking, curled up as tightly as I can manage, whimpering every few seconds, crying and wanting nothing more than to be comfortable in my own skin. This stuff feels like it’s draining my wolf, making her shift and jerk around in my body, fighting to be let free. That thought only increases my tears; oh, God, how can I do another day of this, much less two months?
I’m not screaming mindlessly anymore, and I find that this aching allows me to think again.
