The butler, John Brook, sounded anxious over the phone.
With a sharp clang, the knife slipped from Evan's hand and clattered to the ground. Without a second thought, he turned and rushed to the hospital.
When he arrived, he found Franklin's hospital room surrounded by a team of doctors.
"It's truly a miracle!" one of them exclaimed.
After confirming that the encephalitis had completely subsided, the medical team finally left the room, giving Evan some privacy with Franklin.
Franklin stared blankly at Evan for a second before asking, "Where is Lila?"
Evan froze. A wave of pain surged behind his eyes.
Franklin was old now. He couldn't handle another blow.
Evan clenched his fists and forced himself to stay composed. He had to lie, just to keep the truth of Lila's death buried a little longer.
"She tried to harm you last time," Evan said carefully. "I've already sent her abroad. When she's ready to admit her mistake, I'll bring her back."
