#Chapter 145: A Deeper Betrayal
Dominic POV
Dominic can feel the rage before he fully acknowledges it, an old, familiar burn spreading through his ribs, tightening across his back.
He’s furious. Furious with himself, with his own damn complacency, with the blind spot he allowed because he was enjoying being in love and relaxed his guard.
His most loyal soldier, his shadow, his brother in everything but blood, has gone and entangled himself with the daughter of a rival family’s consigliere. A girl who should have been kept far from their business. A girl whose father has betrayed them and who they now will have to eliminate.
He should have seen it coming, and this is what annoys him the most.
Dominic pours two glasses of bourbon and tells Romero to sit. He watches the other man lower himself into the chair across from him, shoulders squared but face somber, too somber.
