A warm feeling filled Wendy's heart, yet her nose turned stuffy as a sour ache followed.
Even her own mother had never spoken to her in such a caring and encouraging tone.
While choking up, she uttered, "Thank you, Ms. Hurst. I really feel bad about making you worry about me when you just came out of surgery."
Margaret smiled even more warmly. "What's there to feel bad about? I like you, my dear—of course, I care about you. I don't have children of my own. When I look at you, it feels like looking at my own daughter, so who else would I care about if not you?"
She then shot Liam a look. "Liam rarely needs my concern. And if I do show it, he finds me naggy. He'd never feel touched like you."
Exasperated, Liam asked, "Why am I getting dragged into this?"
Wendy couldn't help but chuckle at his words.
"That's more like it. You should laugh and smile more. You're much prettier when you smile, and it helps you open up your heart more as well," Margaret said.
