He clenched his teeth, forcing himself to calm down, and continued lying: “Miss Bailey, the blood donor has been properly handled. His family has been compensated, and the matter is end.”
Aaliyah did not turn around, merely uttering a soft “hm” as if unconcerned with the answer.
“Is there anything else?” the assistant asked cautiously.
Aaliyah remained silent for a moment before finally waving her hand. “That's all. You may go now.”
The assistant sighed in relief and turned to leave the study.
As he closed the door, he couldn't help but glance back at Aaliyah.
The tall, slender figure still stood by the window, as if cut off from the rest of the world, lonely and cold.
In the study, Aaliyah slowly raised her hand and pulled out an old ring box from the depths of the drawer.
The velvet on the box had faded, and the edges were worn, but the ring inside still shone brightly.
It was the engagement ring she had prepared for Lawrence years ago.
