Chapter 948
Louis got hauled off by the cops. James crawled out from the bushes, his face covered in mosquito bites—at least seven or eight of them.
He scowled at Louis's place, his jaw clenched tight. "Lucky bastard," he muttered. "Got picked up by the police right in time."
Letting out a frustrated huff, James shoved the fruit knife back into his pocket and turned around, clearly not thrilled.
He'd only taken a few steps when Miles pulled up in a rush and jumped out of his car.
They locked eyes for a second.
James instantly looked away, clearly feeling guilty.
Miles breathed a sigh of relief before walking over. "What the hell were you doing here?"
He was ready to snap at James—but then saw the kid's face all swollen from the bites and couldn't help but laugh.
"I was just... just out wandering around," James tried to play it off, not daring to admit he'd come here to stab someone.
"Wandering into someone's complex, huh?" Miles pointed at the car. "Get in."
James mumbled an "okay" and climbed in
