"Same to you," Beckett said, not loosening his grip one bit.
If it's all just a power play, then fair enough—they were both playing their cards. He wasn't some saint here.
Alex frowned, clearly wanting to say more, but that's when the cops stepped inside the room.
"Mr. Simpson, please cooperate with us on the investigation into Clinton's assault case."
Alex shot Beckett a look, his expression darkening.
So Beckett was dragging him into this too?
"Mr. Simpson, what Clinton did was serious. I doubt Madeleine will let it go—she's been through a lot. So I hope you'll just tell it like it is," Beckett said calmly.
Alex took a deep breath. Figures—classic Beckett.
Clinton was Beckett's own brother. If Beckett had gone to the police himself, it would've been too obvious and would definitely piss off Stanton.
But if *he*, Alex, testified instead, it'd hit differently.
Plus, if he covered for Clinton and Madeleine found out, that'd just push her even further away.
