Evan Kim showed up in a sharp suit and glasses, looking like the textbook definition of a smooth operator.
"Mr. Beach," he greeted with a casual smile as Beckett arrived. He stood up and reached out to shake hands.
"So the rumors were true—didn't expect to actually see you back," Beckett said, smiling faintly as he sat across from Evan. "Heard you got caught in some mess. What went down? People even thought you were dead."
"Honestly, I thought I was dead too," Evan chuckled, rolling his wrist slightly to show the faint burn scars on the back of his hand. "There was a fire… I jumped in to save my wife. Barely made it out alive."
Beckett's eyes flickered for a second. He had scars too.
Evan's gaze dropped to the high black collar Beckett wore, smiled knowingly. "Guess we're both a little burned, huh?"
"It took me a whole year just to stabilize," Evan continued, eyes drifting to the window. "Then a few more years of rehab, training, rebuilding every piece of myself. I ha
