Beckett's place.
He sat at the edge of the bed, his arm in a sling, acting like he couldn't lift a finger. So everything fell on Madeleine.
He was clearly enjoying being pampered. "Babe, my hands are dirty. Can you wipe them again?"
"And my legs too. You missed a spot."
Madeleine shot him a helpless look. "You know you've got another hand."
"Ow, that one's hurting too. What if it's broken as well?" Beckett replied dramatically.
Madeleine's eyes were rimmed red, but she couldn't help laughing. "Stop the theatrics."
"My leg, babe…" he nodded toward it with a grin.
Madeleine gave in and gently wiped his leg again.
Then Beckett gave her a little chin lift—clearly hinting at the other leg.
She rolled her eyes, didn't say a word, and tossed the towel on his lap. "Do it yourself. I need to wash up."
As soon as she stepped into the bathroom, she let out a long breath. Cool water on her face finally made her feel a bit more alive.
Beckett was okay. That's all that mattered.
