Madeleine was curled up on the bathroom floor, letting the shower rain down on her like she didn't even feel it. She hugged herself tightly, her nails digging harsh red lines into her pale skin.
Honestly… when she found out it was Beckett that night six years ago, a part of her... actually felt relieved. At least she hadn't betrayed him. At least she didn't have to carry the weight of guilt, thinking she'd slept with a stranger and wronged him.
But the trauma… the pain... it never left. For six whole years, it lived with her.
She tried everything to forget. Even went through MECT, hoping the memories would be zapped away. Didn't work. She just got more numb. Strangely, the stuff she tried to forget? Clear as day. The stuff she wanted to hold on to? Starting to fade.
