Chapter 491 And I Am… The Chairman
Ruby’s feelings had always been largely defined by her vanity, so the fulsome attention immediately made her feel like she was at the height of her life, basking in the adulation reserved for the queen of the world. Even those rich housewives who used to look down on her had come rushing to talk to her without a shred of condescension. How could life be any better by this point?!
She had sunken completely into the high of having her vain ego pampered and massaged the moment she lived in a luxury villa. In fact, it was enough to make her forget Zayn’s incident—and all the terror of it—completely.
Waine could not contain himself from trying as soon as he saw how much glamor his wife managed to net. He broadcasted similar pictures to his social media account and immediately received a whirlwind of adulations and attention. So many people had come in and voiced their jealousy! So many had invited him for meals and hangouts too, just so they could take a peek at their seven million dollars house.
Of course, none were as flabbergasted as the Carters, who read about Ruby and Waine’s statuses in stark bemusement. For the life of them, they could not understand how this happened—did the son of Everest Group not brag about his intention to kick Zayn’s butt? A few hours from then, and those two had managed to live in that expensive villa in Barrow Cove?
Did this mean that the whole thing had been solved?
The pomp and opulence of the villa’s interior washed over Ruby and Waine the moment they stepped inside, leaving them stunned in earnest amazement. The next time they moved, it was with their phones hungrily snapping pictures of everything in giggling excitement while their mouths were busy furnishing Zayn with endless praises.
Zayn watched the two of them acting as though this was the first time they came face-to-face with luxury and felt an immense sense of gratification too. After years of becoming their maligned son-in-law, this would be the first time he had ever been showered with any kind of approval from them.
Now, if only he and Faye had never divorced. That would be the cherry on top…
Faye was a bit shocked at the pomp of Zayn’s luxury villa too, but that turned out to be all there was for her reaction. Ruby’s vanity seemed to have missed her daughter, as unlike the former, Faye had a lot less ardor for the material.
Zayn watched her distracted reaction to her surroundings, along with her pensive look, and knew that he had to explain himself to Faye very soon.
Just as expected, Faye’s pent-up questions seemed to have reached a tipping point that as soon as her parents went upstairs to choose their bedroom, she inhaled a deep breath and asked, “Can we talk?”
Zayn nodded. “Sure.”
They went to a quiet spot, and Zayn started, “Fifi, look…”
Faye did not let him finish. With her eyes gluing to his face, she cut his sentence curtly, “Are you really the chairman of Violet Vision?”
There were more questions on her mind and readied on her tongue, anxious to be freed and fired at Zayn. It was not the first question she wanted to ask, yet before anything else made itself apparent, it escaped her lips. It outed itself as the one question that plagued her the most.
Zayn sank into silence. He had not expected that to be her first question.
Seeing him drag his silence on without an answer, Faye’s expression turned bleak. She tried to brighten it with a forced smile, adding, “Hey, it’s okay if you can’t answer it right now.”
Zayn considered her. “I don’t think it’s a case of whether I answer or not. It’s whether you would believe me when I say it.”
It was already a confirmation. Faye dug her teeth deep into her lips. “I believe you.”
Solemnly, Zayn said, “I am him.”
