LESLIE’S POV
I hated that we acted the same way. I didn’t want to have anything in common with him. But, right now, I was as shocked as he was about this. There had been no warning before this was shoved down our throats.
The issue wasn’t even the gala. Given, I’d never attended one because formal events bore me but the problem was that me and Wade had to play happy step siblings, quite literally after we had a fight. We were barely even cordial at home but, doing this in public and in front of cameras?
I could smell the disaster already.
“Mom,” I began carefully, “do I really have to go? I can just stay in and rewatch Sixteen Candles like I always do when you’re out for these functions.” Wade snorted beside me and I shot him a glare.
“Nonsense,” Brandon said, coming to stand beside her. “We’re a family and I want us to be able to do things as a family. It’s our first company event since I remarried.”
