Chapter 156 Maya wakes up
Maya's POV
My head hurt.
I blinked slowly, my eyes struggled to adjust to the dim light that flittered through a tiny barred window that was high above my head. I felt like a hammer had been thrown at my skull. Every breath I took made my chest hurt, and I felt sick and weak.
Where the hell was I?
The air was thick and foul, heavy with the stench of dampness, mould, and something else—something sharp and acrid that made my stomach churn. My nose wrinkled involuntarily; I gagged at the overwhelming smell of stale urine seeping into the air, mixing with the dampness that clung to every surface like a second skin.
Trying to sit up, I realised that I was on the cold stone ground. My whole body ached all over, and my muscles were stiff and extremely sore. I tried to force myself to sit up better, but something was holding me back, restricting me.
I was chained up like a criminal.
