Chapter 7 Please Save Me

Veronica looked over and saw that the door to the private room was ajar. Five people were sitting around the table, while another man and a woman stood nearby. The woman was trembling in clear fright as she hid behind the man, who shielded her well in turn. The familiar voice spoke again. "Jonathan, you told me that you would let us go if I finished all this alcohol. Are you going back on your word?" The man standing there was Veronica's biological younger brother, Lincoln Walsh. Jonathan, seated in the middle of the group, was holding a cigarette between his fingers. Slowly, he exhaled a ring of smoke and said arrogantly, "I've changed my mind. Am I not allowed to do that?" Lincoln glared at him in fury. "Stella broke up with you, Jonathan! She's my girlfriend now!" Jonathan tossed his cigarette into the ashtray and looked at Lincoln coldly. "She broke up with me? Did you ask her if I agreed to it? It was a one-sided breakup—and look, she's found her next shag so soon after me.
