Chapter 774
Yvonne left immediately after. She felt like if she stayed with Steven for a second longer, her emotions would explode.
By this point, it was already late at night. Steven decided to call Jillian to share the good news and ask her to help him calm his nerves.
However, when he called her, Jillian's voice was urgent. "Steven, my friend is sick. I'm at the hospital taking care of her."
"Huh?" Steven was confused.
"She's the one I'm renting with…" Jillian sighed and continued, "She's divorced, living alone and her job is going badly. Life's pretty tough for her."
She was ditching him, right? His face instantly darkened. He had already stood people up many times, and now Jillian was doing the same to him!
Was this karma?
"Steven, do you know anyone at the Southbury First Hospital? We can't get in and she's really sick…"
Jillian sounded worried. Although she was the daughter of a hospital director in Levix City, the Southbury First Hospital was on a different level entirely.
Powerful families from across the province frequented this hospital. A small-time hospital director wouldn't be able to make any connections here.
"Do you want me to treat her?" Steven swore that he didn't want to go just because Jillian mentioned her friend was a divorced woman.
Steven was just quick to help, and treating the sick was his duty. It was an obligation he never hesitated to fulfill.
"No, no. It's just a cold and a fever, nothing serious. You don't need to trouble yourself. Just a small favor would be enough," Jillian reassured him quickly.
Steven was speechless. She didn't want him, a miracle doctor, to treat her friend. But she was willing to queue up at the hospital to treat her friend?
Was Jillian trying to protect her friend or him?
"Fine, alright. I'll handle it."
Since Jillian was acting like this, Steven understood.
As the Master Sage of Medicine, he wasn't about to go running to treat someone unless it were absolutely necessary. Only Zack had enjoyed that kind of service, and that was only because Steven had just received his inheritance and needed to build connections and make money.
Now, Steven didn't need these things anymore—he needed to maintain his image! He hung up the phone and called Dean.
Dean was at a drinking party. There were people around him, praising him for being connected with Jonah and his family.
After hearing Steven's request, Dean sobered up immediately. He excitedly patted his chest and promised that the hospital director, who was his former student, would take care of everything.
"Seriously, after working all night, do I have to continue making an effort?"
Steven hung up but was at a loss for words. Jillian was busy at the hospital now. Was he going to fuck her there?
That seemed a bit unethical.
Instead, he drove back to Jonah's place.
Meanwhile, at the top-floor suite of the hotel, Zane had just returned. He stood on the balcony, holding a wine glass as he gazed at the traffic below.
Beside him, Yvonne was reporting everything that happened.
"I took the liberty of sending the information to Steven, but I didn't get any real benefit from him. Please punish me, Dad," she said, feeling guilty.
Zane stared at her for a while before suddenly saying, "Yvonne, you don't happen to like Steven, do you?"
"Dad, what are you talking about? How could I like that pervert?" Yvonne replied quickly, instantly irritated.
"Good…"
Seeing that she wasn't pretending, Zane sighed in relief. He was truly worried that his daughter might fall for Steven.
That man's way with women was too dangerous.
Then, with a slight smile, he said, "You did well, Yvonne."
"Huh?" Yvonne was momentarily stunned, feeling confused. She hadn't gained any benefits from Steven, and he was still in danger.
This favor she'd given might never be returned.
"Steven isn't as simple as you think," Zane said, an unknown emotion flashing in his eyes. "Today, he had another breakthrough."
Yvonne was sent back to the hotel to report Jonah's recovery to the family. She needed to make sure that the family's patriarch, who was a Vajra Grandmaster, was prepared.
She had even considered personally visiting Jonah to strengthen their ties.
