As soon as Lucas Bennett heard he was the one supposed to give Vincent Lee a ride, his face darkened again and he mumbled, “Not gonna happen.”
“Whether you do or not, I’m riding with Caitlin!” Julia Smith snapped, glaring at him hard—probably afraid he'd mouth off to Vincent again in the car.
The tension hung awkwardly in the air. Without sparing a glance at Alexander Perkins, Samantha Quin marched straight to the driver’s seat and slid in. She motioned for Julia to hop in the passenger seat.
After adjusting her seat and the steering wheel, Samantha quietly started the engine—only to be interrupted by a loud knock on the passenger-side window.
Alexander shot Julia a chilly look and said bluntly, “Get out.”
Terrified, Julia didn't dare argue. She quickly climbed out of the front seat.
Alexander took her place, face icy as ever. “Drive.”
