Chapter 139
Jason's expression eased a bit after hearing her out. He adjusted his glasses with a slight push.
"Waking up is already a good sign. And from how he reacts, it's clear he subconsciously leans heavily on you. You need to keep him calm, don't let him overreact—his body's still in a fragile state, can't afford any more setbacks."
As he spoke, Jason shut the file in his hand and walked alongside Stella toward the hospital room.
Inside, Charles was lying on the bed, staring at the doorway, his face still drained of color, and his lips pale and dry.
When he caught sight of Stella and Jason entering, his eyes instantly lit up—but that flicker of hope was quickly clouded by hesitation.
Stella stepped up to the bed and sat down gently. She reached out to smooth the crease between his brows and spoke softly.
"Charles, I told you it's real. I'm here. This isn't a dream."
Charles's gaze moved nervously between Stella and Jason, his voice trembling.
"Stella... is it really you?"
"It's me, Charles."
