Chapter 910
A total nutjob? Matthew's face darkened. He felt an instant connection with the successor of Harmona Sect like they were kindred spirits.
So, when Matthew heard Pierre being called a nutjob, he wasn't happy about it. "If he's not insane, don't associate him with that word."
Alyssa coldly remarked, "I'm not the only one saying it. Everyone in the town talks about him like that. He's got a weird temper, is stingy, cruel, and holds grudges.
"He worked as a doctor at Eaststone Hospital, which was a pretty respectable job, but his strange personality kept him single. Plus, the older he gets, the odder he becomes."
It was the first time Matthew had heard so many bizarre remarks about someone. "Is this just what you've heard, or do you really know him?"
Alyssa sat down on the nearby chair. A hint of nostalgia flashed in her eyes. She seemed to drift into memories, occasionally smiling to herself.
Suddenly, Alyssa looked pissed off. She took a deep breath before saying, "I know him better than anyone else. We're neighbors and grew up together.
"When we were kids, he was really good at school and always helped me with my homework. If I didn't get something, all I had to do was ask, and he'd help me.
"Especially when we were applying to college, he had an insane SAT score of 1592. He could've gotten into any Ivy League institutions, but he passed on that and decided to study medicine instead."
As Alyssa finished her sentence, her expression was slowly filled with pain.
Matthew was taken aback. He didn't manage to find Pierre, but he ended up finding Alyssa, Pierre's childhood friend.
Unfortunately, Alyssa was now a wealthy woman who spent money on male escorts. The entire thing was simply outrageous.
Alyssa looked even more upset, her voice choking up as she spoke. "I shouldn't have supported him in studying medicine. After he became a doctor, he completely changed.
"He turned into a selfish jerk with a hot temper. He was harsh with words, and he easily held grudges. Sometimes he'd act like a complete maniac.
"He took the wrong path. He shouldn't have gone into medicine. His life's a wreck now."
As Matthew listened to Alyssa, he became more and more confused. What did studying medicine have to do with all this? Something else must have happened to Pierre, but he had no idea what it was. He thought he should ask.
"Do you know why he turned out like this?"
Alyssa bluntly explained, "It's because he studied medicine. He shouldn't have become a doctor in the first place."
Matthew felt like he wasn't going anywhere, so he decided to drop it. "Do you know where he is now? I need to find him for something important."
Alyssa nodded. "I know. He's at Clemency Hospital in the eastern suburbs."
Matthew got up. "If that's the case, I'll just go look for him then."
Alyssa stood up as well. "A-Are you leaving already?"
Was Matthew not supposed to leave? What was Alyssa thinking?
A strange idea popped into Matthew's mind. He glanced at Alyssa, then quickly looked and headed toward the door.
Seeing Matthew at the door, Alyssa hurriedly shouted, "Hold on."
Matthew turned to Alyssa. "What's up?"
Alyssa leaned closer. "I-I need your help."
Matthew didn't want to hear it, but he stayed. After a pause, he nonchalantly asked, "What's the matter?"
However, after asking the question, Matthew started regretting it.
With an awkward expression, Alyssa replied, "Can we keep what happened between us from Monkey?"
Matthew sported a cold look. "What do you mean, 'between us'?"
He was only here to ask for where to go and didn't do anything, but Alyssa made it look like something went down between them.
Alyssa quickly waved her hand. "Nothing happened. I just need your help to keep my foolish actions under wraps.
"Honestly, this is my first time. I have never paid for a male escort before, and I won't do it again. Please don't tell Monkey about it."
Matthew sported a grim expression. "It's got nothing to do with me. I don't care if you have done this or not, and I won't tell him about it. I'm not a busybody."
With that, he opened the door and left the place.
Alyssa couldn't shake her worry and shouted at Matthew's back. "Please! Don't tell him! I swear, this is really my first time."
Matthew heard her shout but ignored it. Eventually, he walked out of the building and started making his way to the entrance of Kirkshire.
Hanging high in the sky, the sun was blazing red and glaring. The heat warmed everything below.
Matthew felt like he was walking out of the darkness into the sunlight. What had just happened felt like a dream.
Watching people walk in the sunlight, Matthew felt a rush of emotions.
Under the sunlight, people looked all put together, but behind closed doors, everyone had a side they didn't show. So, what kind of person was Pierre?
