Chapter 689

As Matthew stared at the fake Plague Compendium, his heart shook, wondering where it all went wrong. In the end, he spared no time dwelling over it and quickly drove over to Woolfields. Matthew arrived at Kingston's house in half an hour and parked his car at the entrance before he entered the yard. It seemed like Kingston had yet to wake up because the yard was filled with silence. Matthew then pushed the door open and saw Kingston sprawled all over the couch, snoring brazenly. After a moment's thought, Matthew walked over and nipped Kingston's nose. The latter frowned in his sleep and proceeded to breathe through his mouth, but Matthew covered Kingston's mouth with his hands as well. Experiencing breathing difficulties in his sleep, Kingston was very quickly jolted awake. He rubbed his eyes and frowned when he saw Matthew, asking, "What are you doing here? Where's Wendy?" Then, Matthew took out the fake Plague Compendium and threw it at Kingston. "You were drunk. You gave this to Wendy when she asked you for the Plague Compendium. How are you going to reason it out?" Seeing that, Kingston defended himself awkwardly, "I don't remember anything—I was too drunk." Matthew then stated coldly, "This Plague Compendium is a fake. Where's the real one?" However, Kingston shook his head and said, "I don't know. I don't have the real one either. It's getting annoying to see everyone come up to me just for the Plague Compendium, so I made a fake one to entertain them when they keep pushing me for it." Upon hearing that, Matthew stared at Kingston with scrutiny. It was obvious that he didn't believe the latter, so he asked, "What should I do exactly to make you believe me?" Kingston then replied with a solemn expression, saying, "I do believe you, but you're the one who doesn't believe me. "I've already told you so many times that I don't have the Plague Compendium, so may the heavens punish me and grant no peace to my ancestors if I have lied to you!" Seeing his stance, Matthew became speechless. When Kingston claimed to not have the Plague Compendium the last time, he created a fake one just to trick Wendy. Now, there really wasn't much that Matthew could do. After all, Kingston kept denying possession of the Plague Compendium, no matter if he was lying or not. Just then, Kingston's phone rang. He fished it out and glanced at the screen before he looked up at Matthew and said, "It's Julian." Having been told that, Matthew put aside the matters regarding the Plague Compendium and said, "Pick it up." The moment Kingston answered his phone, he heard Julian's voice. "Hey, are you coming or not? Mr. Fuller's gonna leave if you don't come now." Before Kingston could reply, Matthew answered immediately, "We're coming now." At Lifehaven Pharmaceuticals, there were three air purifiers running at the same time, and they emitted a constant humming noise. In the office were three people. The first was Julian, who was lying on the bed with an IV drip hanging by his side. The next was Jonas, who was sitting on the couch, and beside him was a woman with a curvy figure. The woman was bending over as she massaged Jonas, and her bottom was sticking out right next to Julian. Julian trained his line of sight to the voluptuous backside the woman had, hitching a breath as his face flushed red. He then switched the topic and said, "Mr. Fuller, you could just send some men over to kill them both. Why'd you call them over?" At that, Jonas casually replied, "I'm the one in control here, so we'll have the upper hand if they come over. Besides, everything in this factory is under our command. Seriously, I've never met an idiot like you." Julian then swept his eyes past the woman's backside and huffed in dissatisfaction, "What did I do so wrong, Mr. Fuller?" There was a trace of disdain on Jonas' face as he said, "You're an idiot. Do you think you're some sort of thug—putting a gun in your office? "I've helped you build your wealth, and you're worth hundreds of millions now, so can't you act like a wealthy gentleman instead? Stop acting like a broke thug and doing shit like this." Having been berated with such words, Julian's face flushed red from embarrassment. He was the factory director, and tons of people were lining up to have a meal with him. Besides, he'd normally be known as a high and mighty figure, living like a big shot as well. Now that he was faced with Jonas' insults though, he didn't dare to clap back. Instead, he could only weakly excuse himself, saying, "I merely thought that it would be ideal to have a gun in case we're met with certain situations. It'll be easy to just kill them off and call it a day." But Jonas snapped, "Idiot! Don't you know the saying that goes 'a wise man avoids danger at all costs'?" Julian pondered on it and said, "I do. It means that a true gentleman would never stay near danger." Having said that, Julian lifted his head to look at Jonas.
