Chapter 667
Kingston looked around his bedroom, cringing as he recalled that Matthew had spotted the tissues. He awkwardly suggested, "If you don't mind, I'll take the couch, and you can have the bed."
Matthew couldn't bring himself to sleep in the room because the smell was too strong. So, he shook his head and said, "I'm not going in there. Let me take the couch.
"Honestly, this place could use some cleaning. No woman would even step foot in here." He couldn't help but speak his mind.
Kingston shook his head. "No woman is going to visit my place. Trust me on that."
He had just broken up with his girlfriend. Even after he offered more money for the wedding gift, she still ended things with him. At this point, he'd lost all hope in women.
Matthew continued to persuade Kingston to do some housecleaning. "You never know. What if a woman somehow takes a liking to you? Your terrible hygiene would scare her away."
Kingston chuckled. "If I ever get a woman to like me, I'd scrub this place until it's spotless. I'd treat her like a princess and give her all I've got."
Matthew finally saw through Kingston now. No matter what he said, he wasn't planning on cleaning up anytime soon.
He went over to the couch and lifted the cushion. Sure enough, it was spotless underneath, so he lay down. "I'll be sleeping here, so don't bother me."
…
Early the next morning, a woman's voice rang out from the yard.
"Dr. Wooler? You home, Kingy?" Wendy called out as she walked to the front door.
Matthew got up to open the door and was surprised to see Wendy. "Did something happen at the poultry farm?"
Wendy looked over Matthew's shoulder and peered inside. "Nothing happened. The sick chickens have gotten better. Where's Kingy? Is he home?"
Matthew was a bit baffled. Just yesterday, Wendy was calling Kingston "Dr. Wooler", but now she was calling him "Kingy". Her attitude toward him switched up pretty quickly.
Stepping aside, Matthew shouted into the house, "There's a lady here to see you, Kingston! Come out and say hello."
Kingston had trouble sleeping as he'd been thinking about a lot of things. He only dozed off when it was almost dawn.
Matthew's shout woke Kingston up. The latter rubbed his eyes and nonchalantly responded, "Why would a woman show up at my place? You're just tricking me into doing the cleaning. Give me a break. I'm going back to sleep."
After saying that, Kingston shut his eyes again.
Upon hearing Kingston's voice, Wendy said, "I'm coming in!"
With that, she walked past Matthew and entered the house, covering her nose as soon as she stepped in.
She couldn't help but frown at the sight of the place in such a mess. This was hands down the most disgusting, rundown, and messiest house she had ever seen.
As Kingston heard someone talking, he jolted upright in bed. Seriously? A woman had come over? A woman actually showed up at his place!
He sprang to his feet and got dressed in a hurry. As he came out of his room, he caught Wendy's startled expression.
Kingston realized the issue right away and nervously said, "Sorry about this, Wendy. I didn't know you were coming over. I-I'll start cleaning up right away."
Upon finishing his sentence, he leaned down to clear up the socks on the floor. With nowhere else to put them, he just stuffed them into his pocket.
Next, he cleaned up the instant noodle cups on the coffee table. It was as if someone had flipped a switch, and he was now putting in serious effort to tidy up the place.
He wiped down the table, mopped the floor, got rid of the trash, and hid away the rest of the mess. After all that hustle, the place finally started to look decent.
Kingston finally approached Wendy. "My bad. I didn't know you'd be dropping by. If I'd known, I would've cleaned up first."
Seeing Kingston all flustered, Wendy suddenly felt like giggling. Even though it was a total mess and Kingston wasn't great with personal hygiene, he genuinely respected her. He even cleaned up for her, making him a better person than Alan.
