Chapter 665
Getting up early for farmwork was a little extreme.
Linus grabbed a hoe and asked Matthew, "Where should I start weeding?"
Matthew coldly remarked, "Working in the field is exhausting, and you're not cut out for it. Forget about the collaboration."
As he spoke, he picked up another basket of tomatoes and made his way to the van.
Linus called out to Matthew as the latter walked away. "You can count on me. I'll stick to it to the end."
Cassia couldn't wrap her head around Linus' actions, so she couldn't help but ask, "You're a respected figure, Mr. Hatcher. Working in the fields doesn't suit you, and you shouldn't lower yourself to that.
"You don't need to come so early, and you won't be able to keep it up anyway. Just take a few days to experience it is good enough."
Linus snorted. "Shut up! If I want to partner with Mr. Riddle, I have to work in the field. It's what he asked for."
Cassia still didn't see the point. "This can be quite tiring, Mr. Hatcher. Why not just give up?"
Linus coldly grunted. "You don't know anything. Do you have any idea how much money can be made by growing tomatoes? In truth, farming tomatoes makes more money than selling drugs. Plus, it's just agriculture. As long as it's safe, I want to be part of it."
Next to Linus, Cassia was taken aback by what she heard.
Her family was from the countryside, but she had never worked in the fields because her parents wouldn't let her. Still, she knew farming barely made any profit. After factoring in the cost of fertilizers, pesticides, and labor, her family risked the possibility of losing money.
Yet, Matthew's income from farming was even higher than the drug dealers. It was something totally unheard of, which explained why Linus was so riled up about it.
Driving away in his van, Matthew couldn't see any potential in Linus's plan to collaborate on tomato farming. He just headed straight to Shepherd Town.
Half an hour later, everyone in the village heard about the boss weeding in the fields, with a secretary and a chauffeur by his side.
"I heard Mr. Hatcher, who rented over 100 acres of land, is out in the fields weeding."
"What the hell? Listen to me. I just came back from the fields, and I saw it with my own eyes. His secretary is gorgeous."
"She is rocking a low-cut top and has an amazing figure. In her fitted skirt, her long legs are in plain sight. As she walks, she sways so much that her skirt looks like it's about to burst."
"She wears her heels all the time, and she keeps getting her feet stuck in the mud. She's definitely not someone who gets her hands dirty."
"Maybe they're just here to experience a farmer's life."
"I feel like there's something wrong with Mr. Hatcher. Isn't it nice to work in the office with his secretary? Why does he come all the way out here to try out the rural life?"
…
Tristan Riddle looked a bit off today. Sitting in the office, he was lost in thought, thinking about how to get back at Matthew. But he just couldn't come up with a good plan.
He was zoning out when the office door opened, and Emily just walked in.
Tristan was startled and peeked out. When he saw no one there, he felt a lot more at ease. "What brings you here? I really wasn't feeling it last night. Do you want me to make it up to you now?"
Emily wanted to bring up Linus working in the fields, but Tristan's words distracted her train of thought.
"So, where do we go?"
Tristan glanced at Emily's voluptuous figure, his eyes lighting up with lust. "Let's head to the car."
Emily was startled. "The car's parked right at the entrance where people are always walking by. It's a terrible idea."
Tristan chuckled. "We'll drive to the foot of the mountain."
With that, he started making his way outside.
Emily reached out and grabbed Tristan. "By the way, Linus is busy weeding in the fields, trying to partner with Matthew for tomato farming.
"His situation got me thinking. If growing tomatoes makes that much money, we need to figure out their technique to grow them."
Tristan was momentarily taken aback, then smacked his thigh. "This is perfect! If you hadn't mentioned it, it would have slipped my mind. If we manage to take their farming technique, we'll be rich. Do you have a plan?"
Smiling, Emily replied, "I've got something in mind. If you treat me right today and keep me satisfied, I might just share it with you."
