Chapter 72 A Favor
Luther's breath turned harsh and ragged, his glare drilling into Cressida. But the hand he had raised finally fell limp at his side.
He had lost. For the first time, he was utterly defeated by this woman before him.
"Fine… Fine!" he spat, shaking free of the stranger's grip. He jabbed a finger at Cressida and shouted, "Just you wait!"
The threat rang hollow, stripped of any real menace. He spun on his heel and stormed to his car.
With a roar from the engine, the black sedan vanished into the distance.
Only when the taillights disappeared around the corner did Cressida's rigid body finally slacken. She turned to the man who had appeared out of nowhere.
He looked to be in his early 30s, with balanced features and a steady air about him.
"Who are you?" she asked. "And why did you help me?"
The man nodded his head slightly, polite without servility.
