Silence finally settled over the room as Cressida muted her phone and tossed it aside. Then, she continued to dry her hair. She had long since learned how to stay indifferent when the Ashworth family flew into a frenzy.
However, her peace was short-lived. Less than ten minutes later, the doorbell rang, rapid and aggressive, like someone was trying to tear the door off its hinges.
Cressida knew it was Helena. She ignored the doorbell and let it keep ringing.
Helena clearly had no intention of giving up. When that failed, she gave up on the bell and started pounding on the door.
"Open this door, Cressida! I know you're in there. You coward. You have the nerve to seduce men but not the nerve to open the door?"
