The heaviness of guilt fell like a weight on my shoulders. I hated it and I hated to be the one who put that look on her beautiful face. "I'm sorry, I really am. I should have told you." Taking hold of her still balled up hands I gently brushed the pad of my thumb in circles over her skin. "I've got a past and it isn't one I'm proud of. Things happened that I can't change and I don't want to talk about them. When we moved here it was to start again, to leave all that behind, I didn't want anyone finding out. I never meant to lie to you pretty girl." Her eyes had softened. "Please don't hate me." I begged, sticking my bottom lip out jokingly. "I don't know what I'd do if my little Berry never spoke to me ever, ever, ever again." Holding my hand over my heart in mock hurt and sighing dramatically, I let my head fall.
