Chapter 563
Cyrus was very pleased with Zoey's response. His wife always made him look good and conducted herself with grace and decorum.
In all of Summerland, probably only Zoey was worthy of being the wife of the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect.
Cyrus instructed Jordan to collect the Blood Bats' corpses. Holding Zoey's hand, he left with a smile on his face. "Honey, you're giving me too much credit. I bet every man in Jorsproburgh is envious of me."
"It's not that exaggerated. I'm your wife, after all," Zoey replied.
That was indeed how she felt. She and Mira were enjoying the life that Cyrus had worked hard to build.
The accounts for Innerzen Medical Center and Herbal City she managed always had billions in cash. She had more than she knew how to spend.
Cyrus never carried money on him, leaving all finances for his wife to manage. Moreover, Mira's condition was steadily improving. She no longer had to worry about Mira being rejected from kindergarten due to unpaid tuition fees.
Zoey had contemplated dying with Mira before. Compared to those days, their current life was heavenly. Now, she shouldn't avoid danger by letting Cyrus shoulder it alone.
"It's not only the men in Jorsproburgh. Even I envy you for having Zoey as a wife," Margot laughed.
Margot, Nicole, and the others followed behind the couple, forming a grand procession. They crossed the street toward the Jorsproburgh Medical Association building.
Holding onto Cyrus' arm, Zoey whispered, "Earlier, the way Megan looked at me was strange like she had figured something out. Did I embarrass you again?"
Cyrus understood she was referring to that matter and smiled. "Don't worry about what others think. I don't care."
"But it's my fault, yet you have to bear the consequences," Zoey said, feeling guilty.
"Honey, it's my mistake. We have plenty of time ahead of us. Don't stress about it," Cyrus reassured her, patting her hand.
Zoey nodded, though it was impossible not to feel pressured. Cyrus yearned for intimacy and to make love to her. He was suffering from holding back.
Yet, she couldn't bring herself to do it. She was making the medical industry mock him for being impotent.
After Cyrus left, the prospective members who had come to join dispersed. The once bustling Jorsproburgh branch of the Summerland Medical Association instantly became deserted.
Only the branch chairman, Joseph, and vice chairman, James, were left behind. Both stared at each other in dismay.
Joseph stood at the entrance, watching Cyrus walk away, his fists clenched tightly. "How dare you declare war on the Summerland Medical Association! I won't let you get away with it."
Megan stood up and said to them, "James, Joseph, you need to contact the Centuria side. Something needs to be done to crush Cyrus' arrogance. Or else, the Anderson and Sykes families will lose our reputation in Summerland."
"Aunt Megan, you need to have Robert take action, like shutting down Cyrus' medical center," James said.
Megan nodded and replied, "I'll talk to Jessie about it."
Joseph and James returned to the office and started a video conference. They held a meeting with the five secretaries of the Summerland Medical Association.
These five secretaries represented the five major families. The secretaries exercised power on behalf of the five chairmen.
As for the chairmen, they were all heads of the families like Owen. All of them were over a hundred years old and not involved in mundane affairs.
Evelyn was Owen's secretary, acting as chairman on his behalf.
"The opening ceremony was a complete disaster. You two messed this up," she criticized.
"Grandma, we didn't expect Cyrus to cause trouble with Blood Bat venom," James said.
Joseph's grandfather said, "Joseph, one more thing while you're there in Jorsproburgh. Find out if Cyrus really knows the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect. As for the Blood Bat venom, our headquarters in Centuria will investigate."
Evelyn appeared visibly tense at this. She took a sip of water, clearing her throat.
She did not manage to destroy Cyrus. Instead, he caused internal strife within the Summerland Medical Association.
