Chapter 560
James was speechless at Robert. Instead of helping with the serious matters, he kept fanning the flames.
Cyrus only needed to extract the Blood Bat venom from Marshall. Once he succeeded, the reputation of the Summerland Medical Association would be damaged.
The other four major medical families might launch an investigation. They would trace the issue back to the Sykes family. This was such a vicious scheme, and it exposed how foolish Robert was.
Yet, it wasn't Robert's fault. Even James, the grandson and future heir of the Sykes family, didn't know the inside story. How could an outsider like Robert know?
Meanwhile, the healers in Jorsproburgh perked up. Everyone anticipated the display of Cyrus' medical skills.
Cyrus looked at Marshall and said, "Mr. Foster Senior, my apologies."
"No need for formalities. Please free me from the ten-year agony of Blood Bat venom. Relieve me from the immense suffering," Marshall said sincerely.
Earlier, he had sought to die, not wanting to trouble Cyrus or owe him more favors. He felt guilty about offering his daughter-in-law to Cyrus, betraying his son. But remembering Cyrus's promise to let him kill Evelyn for revenge, his spirits lifted.
Cyrus took out his needle holster. He looked at the thousands of healers from the Lynch family.
"There are high-ranking members of the Summerland Medical Association involved in using venom. If I prove that later, I hope some of you will wake up and turn away from darkness. Otherwise, you'll face the consequences when the reckoning comes."
"Cyrus, stop trying to scare them. If you have proof, show it!" Joseph was getting anxious. He had boasted in front of Evelyn about putting Cyrus in his place.
After the Sykes and Anderson families divided the Jorsproburgh market, he would marry Jessie. But Jessie's innocence was now in question. Yet, Cyrus dared to publicly challenge him, the scion of the Anderson family.
Cyrus had to die.
Marshall took out a nutrient pill, preparing to swallow it. Joseph shouted, "Wait, what is that?"
Cyrus took the pill and handed it to Joseph. "This is a nutrient pill for Blood Bat venom, made from fresh blood and feeding materials. After taking this pill, the blood bats will temporarily go dormant, lowering their guard. This is the best time to attack and remove them."
Joseph sniffed it and confirmed the strong bloody smell. "Mr. Foster Senior, where did you get these nutrient pills?"
Marshall sneered, "Someone tried to control me with these pills to take over the Jorsproburgh market. This is stolen stock."
Joseph was shocked upon hearing this. If Marshall was telling the truth, the prime suspect would be the Sykes family.
The Anderson family already knew about the Sykes family's visit to Jorsproburgh.
He glanced at James, who stood tall, pretending nothing was amiss. With lingering doubts, Joseph returned the pill to Marshall.
After Marshall swallowed the medicine, he unzipped his down jacket, exposing his skin. Then, he regulated his breathing.
With a flick of his wrist, Cyrus shot a silver needle into the left side of Marshall's heart. Unlike the usual acupuncture depth, this needle was fully embedded into Marshall's skin.
In an instant, Marshall let out a horrific scream and dropped to his knees. A small ball began rapidly moving under the skin of his chest.
"Holy crap!" The crowd gasped in horror.
It was incredibly horrifying.
James, Joseph, and Robert, who were close by, were covered in goosebumps.
"Mr. Foster Senior, please bear with it for a moment. It'll be over in 20 seconds."
With utmost precision, Cyrus fired a few more silver needles. Each needle targeted the moving ball with precision as it darted around. The ball started moving upward as if sensing danger, trying to flee through the mouth.
Cyrus's ninth needle struck Marshall's lower jaw. Instantly, Marshall's bloodshot eyes snapped open. He began to vomit a bloody mass of filth.
Robert had retreated 30 feet away, covering his mouth. He watched for a long time without seeing any movement.
"Is this the Blood Bat venom you spoke of? Are you trying to fool me?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than the Blood Bats emerged from the vomit. They emitted a shrill screech and spread their wings. Then, they charged toward Jorsproburgh's new mayor.
